North London has the Ace Café, but the East End’s Easy Riders should check out Muff Customs – a Hackney Wick motorbike workshop/store where hand-built ‘traffic-beating machines’, clothing,
accessories and chow collide, so to speak. Founder Josh Love’s pistonheads’ paradise has a cafeteria riding pillion – a postmodern bike-shed shoo-in for breakfast and all-day lunches. Enjoy freshly
roasted coffee, cakes and pastries, kick-start with brownies, burritos, huevos rancheros and sumac-coated mushrooms on toast, or drop by later for more substantial savoury grub – perhaps Asian pork
with satay sauce, chicken with mango, pineapple and chilli salsa or haddock with beetroot, wasabi mayo and dill, served in flatbread with crunchy slaw. With a liquor licence now secured, evenings
at Muff will mean craft ales and cocktails too (breathalyser alert!), plus occasional live music, art and other quirky goings-on.
