A haven for enthusiastic carnivores, this casual Italian follows successful openings in South Kensington, Exmouth Market and Southwark with some drama added via an elevated stage on which meat is prepared in the ‘dining theatre’. RC (Roberto Costa) sold a restaurant chain in his native Italy before opening Macellaio (‘matcha-lie-yo’) RC South Kensington in 2012. Specialising in Fassone beef from Piedmont, this 60-day dry-aged beef is the star; from Italian-style tartare bound with Tuscan olive oil, to slices of bresaola with buffalo mozzarella. Elsewhere there are pasta options, as well as tarts, pizzas and focaccias available from the open-air bakery.
