About
One of the first boozers 20 years ago to get a gastropub upgrade in Cambridge, The Kingston Arms – in the residential heartland just off Mill Road – has been perfecting the art of serving quality real ales with decent pub food ever since. Booze-wise it’s all about the Camra-lovers’ IPAs, although there are also ciders and a short unpretentious wine list if you must. A ‘Recession Menu’ offering dishes such as homemade cottage pie or spag bol for a fiver is popular, but there’s also a range of standard pub classics (the likes of sausages, burgers and Caesar salads) at pocket-friendly prices too. The kitchen might not win any awards for inventiveness or fancy flavours, but this friendly, straightforward free house, with its cosy bar and atmospheric courtyard, keeps the locals, and ale appreciators, coming back.
