There’s something rather inviting about this informal café a short walk from Victoria with its warm ochre tones and a wall of paintings to admire. Like its grown-up sibling Kazan, across the road, the menu here extends from the Middle East to the Mediterranean, with falafel and kebabs sitting alongside pasta all’arrabiata and steaks. The mezze platter includes well-executed classics such as a thick, garlicky beetroot dip, parsley-rich tabbouleh, and moreish dollops of nutty hoummos. Lamb kofte are full of flavour and punch, while an enormous couscous salad benefits from tender cubes of grilled haloumi and a tasty harissa and citrus dressing. An interesting selection of drinks ranges from pomegranate mojitos to banana and cinnamon milkshakes. In summer, the glass walls slide back for alfresco dining; shisha pipes are also available to while the evening away.
