From the team behind Northern Quarter’s Home Sweet Home, this recent opening in the Great Northern provides a large menu of US-style comfort food along with a jaw-dropping cake counter. Sit in diner-like booths (or a private dining space for large groups) and get stuck in to brunch: there’s ample choice, including a selection of ‘Bennies’ (eggs Benedicts), breakfast waffles, house hash potatoes with a variety of toppings, and stacks of enormous fluffy pancakes served all day. More is more when it comes to mains, and we loved a fun and inventive cheeseburger toastie – smashed beef patty with melted Cheddar and various relishes on grilled sourdough – as well as some excellent buttermilk crispy fried chicken. Milkshakes are suitably indulgent, including a selection of ‘cake shakes’, and the cocktail list has a dedicated Espresso Martini section – albeit one featuring crushed churros. The perfect place to indulge your inner child.
