Surrounded by immaculately manicured gardens and boasting stunning views over Lake Windermere, Linthwaite House hotel is the perfect setting for a brand new restaurant led by Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan. Named after Hen Holme (a craggy island visible from the terrace of Linthwaite House), HenRock’s focus will be on seasonal small plates inspired by the chef’s travels around the world, and made with produce from Simon’s own farm, located just a few miles from Linthwaite House.
Head chef Brian Limoges (formerly of Quince, Birdsong and Atelier Crenn) will lead the kitchen team, while Nicolas Perdrier, former assistant manager at L’Enclume, will bring his invaluable understanding of Simon’s farm-to -fork ethos, high standards of hospitality, and excellent local knowledge to the table. It's suffice to say, guests will be in very capable hands.
Little is known about the menu specifics, but we’re told that signature dishes are set to include raw aged beef with elderberry and shiso; halibut baked in cabbage leaf with bay shrimp and pink pepper; and fried apple pie with miso butterscotch and cassia clotted cream. It’s a step away from Simon’s other restaurants (L’Enclume, Roganic, Aulis and Rogan & Co.), where the focus is very much on British influences, techniques and produce, but given that the chef has just successfully launched his Roganic and Aulis restaurants in Hong Kong, diners can bet he’ll be bringing his new-found knowledge of Asian cooking to HenRock with him.
What with the chocolate box location and Simon Rogan’s star status, a meal here definitely won’t come cheap, but if the dining experience at this pioneering chef’s other restaurants are anything to go by, it’ll be worth every penny.
