Owned and run by members of the Chowdhury family for more than two decades, Haweli continues to deliver the goods: “service, food, drink and staff are all of a high standard”, notes one fan. The menu mixes regional Indian classics, ‘old favourites’, ‘heritage dishes’ and baltis with a few more generic South Asian specialities – so expect anything from samosas, puris, tandooris and tikkas, kormas, biryanis and dhansaks to Goan fish curry, Punjabi butter chicken and kabuli ghost (lamb cooked with chickpeas and mint). Vegetarians get plenty of choice, while seafood fans should look out for Haweli’s special fixed-price menu featuring the likes of pan-grilled scallops with avocado mash and crunchy nachos or grilled halibut (marinated in kollam spices and lemon leaves) served with peppers, onion and ‘pearl white’ rice. Sunday lunch is a child-friendly family buffet.
