As an independent wine shop, Hanging Ditch has the lot – knowledgeable staff, attentive service & a genuinely interesting list laid out by style for easy browsing. It’s also an extremely civilised place to have a drink, either at the narrow bar inside or one of the pavement tables. A rotating selection of wines by the glass ensures constant interest, but for a flat £6 corkage charge on top of the retail price, customers can pick any bottle, whether it’s a £7.50 Chilean Chardonnay or the Australian Two Hands Ares Shiraz (£95) off the shelf to drink there & then. But early birds catch the (juicy) worm: the shop closes is at 8pm.
