Head to Reading’s Franco Manca pizzeria for excellent service and smashing sourdough pizza made in the proper Neapolitan way. Surrounded by shops in the Oracle, just outside Debenhams, this restaurant is located on the riverside where you can catch some great views up on the terrace. The pizzeria is just a short walk from the main station and bus links too, for super easy access. Nothing will get between you and your pizza.
The restaurant is great for any occasion, from celebrations to casual dates, you can even book a masterclass birthday party session so you and your friends can learn how to make pizza. The classes are every second Tuesday in the afternoon, a bargain at £30 per head for two and a half hours of learning from the expert pizzaiolos. You can also make regular bookings. There is disabled access and facilities.
The outside terrace is the best spot to nab on a sunny day, to watch the Thames sparkling in the sunshine, while you eat your delicious sourdough pizza. The interior is bright and airy, with plenty of space. The shelves are lined with Italian imports of wine and oil. The décor is simple, stripped back, with modern wooden furniture and white tiled walls. The atmosphere is friendly and familiar, as the staff are accommodating, and the pizza smells so homely and welcoming.
Make sure to look at the daily specials for seasonal delights or the main menu has seven amazing pizzas to choose from. There’s a pizza topping to suit everyone’s tastes and preferences, whether you’re a veggie fiend or are all about the cured meats. The cheeses don’t exclude vegans, as there is a plant-based mozzarella option and gluten-free people needn’t fret, there’s a pizza for them too. The pizza does not compromise on flavour at Franco Manca.
