About

Discover all that Turkish food has to offer in this modern restaurant with Middle Eastern influences throughout. Specialising largely on Ottoman cuisine, Fora describe their food as a fusion of ‘Asian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and Balkan dishes.’ After eating here you’re sure to come out an expert in Turkish cuisine and beyond.

Its extensive menu can look a little overwhelming at first, but whatever you order is guaranteed to impress. First try its selection of cold starters. The stuffed vine leaves and cacik are certainly different, but tasty all the same. When it comes to mains it makes sense to order something from the chargrill to keep things authentic. All marinated with a mix of exotic spices, go for the lamb kofte or chicken beyti with lavash bread. We suggest ordering a few different dishes to get a full feel for the cuisine, but it also offers the Ottoman feast. Great if a big group decide to pay Fora a visit.

If you fancy eating from the sea, its fresh fish menu served with salad and potatoes is a simple but satisfying option and the vegetarian dishes still give you the full taste of Turkish cuisine without all the heavy meat influences. Think halloumi kebabs, moussaka and a Mediterranean quinoa salad, a light but filling addition to the menu.

To finish off your traditional Turkish experience you have to try the classic sweet treat, Baklava. Thin layers of filo pastry filled with pistachio syrup sounds sickly sweet but we promise it has the perfect balance to end a meal; you might even want to order a second portion to take home.

With so much to choose from, you can be fully educated on Turkish cuisine at this restaurant. All while enjoying your food in a lively and exciting atmosphere. Fora is ideal for big groups with its wide range of group menus but if you want an intimate dinner, you’re catered for too.

Fora is in a less than pretty part of the city, nestled in the Eastern end of the Square Mile in Houndsditch, however is a good and reliable ‘Turkish’ restaurant with a vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff. I say ‘Turkish’ because it labels itself as contemporary Mediterranean cuisine – think Lebanese/Turkish. That said, Fora do a good job of producing a decent array of meze from Tabouleh and Kofte, to Fried Calamari and Whitebait with the occasional hint of contemporary, but generally staying very safely within well known Western examples of what meze is expected to be. There were no surprises on the meze front but the mixed grill and Adana Kebab were expertly done and couldn't be faulted. The Ezme salad that accompanied them was delicious and the perfect addition to the meat and rice, but is certainly not a true rendition of Ezme (not important if it's delicious, but call it something else!) Fora represents a slightly better alternative to Haz around the corner in Cutler Street, and does exactly as it says on the door. Service is friendly but slow – we waited more than 25 minutes for our starters due to some confusion with another table – so perhaps I just got them on a bad day, as they were very keen to make up for the delay once noted. A keenly priced wine list that will please the wallet but consequently won't blow away the palate. Easy to recommend Fora for those who like it straight up and honest.

Authentic Turkish Food
Second time I have booked this restaurant for lunch and was not disappointed again. Excellent selection of authentic dishes cooked to perfection. Nice buzz in the restaurant and the service is very attentive without being in your face. I had the Adana Kofte and my colleague has the Centik Special (which I had the last time). Both were very tasty and the meats were succulent and well cooked. All in all a very nice restaurant and competitively priced so value for money. Will definitely be back again.

Very authentic Turkish food
Booked a table at Fora for 3 people for a business lunch at 13:00. Arrived and were given a friendly greeting. Excellent authentic Turkish food served by friendly staff. The atmosphere was very relaxing with the right buzz for lunchtime in the city. Two of us had the Centik Special which was superb. Tender Lamb, Lamb mince and Chicken very nicely flavoured. Service was attentive without being in your face. Highly recommended.
