Brothers Marco and Iacopo Rossi’s split-level Tuscan wine bar and dining room is a far cry from Brick Lane’s Jewish caffs of yore. Its brightly lit, pared-down decor radiates tasteful tonal chic, creating a setting for big, bold flavours: asparagus and guanciale (cured pork cheek) bruschetta; spicy squid with couscous; or possibly ribollita (a hearty traditional potage of cavalo nero, cannellini beans and leftover bread). Pop in for weekend brunch of eggs Florentine, or perhaps the Sunday roast – everything comes with sunny service. At aperitivo hour, over classic Spritzes, order Tuscan club sandwich, or quality cheeses and charcuterie. Top-notch wines (all available to take away) hail from small independent mostly Tuscan producers. Podere di Pomaio, the Rossi brothers’ sustainable winery in the Arezzo region of Tuscany, makes fine Chianti, Sangiovese and an agreeably tart rosé (Rosantico, bursting with not yet fully ripened fruits) all available by the glass and bottle.
