Dom’s Deansgate corner site has history for many Mancs, who might have had their first taste of trattoria cooking in the 1980s at Pizzeria Italia, its most long-standing occupant. Businesses then came and went, but Dom’s has revived the location with an easy-going menu aimed squarely at shoppers, lunchers and the Arena crowd. The big dining room is full of mismatched furniture, the better to distract from its distinctive brick-built window arches. Behind the counter a giant oven belches out pizzas; try the eponymous special, with broccoli and homemade sausage. There are few surprises on the main menu, which is peppered with classics including Caprese salad and fritto misto, followed by the likes of osso buco or slow-roast porchetta with cider and pork jus. You’ll also find a selection of ‘tapas’ and a deli counter selling store-cupboard goodies, bread and cold cuts, from which staff will make takeaway sandwiches.
