Dedicated to recreating that ‘holiday feel’, this indie restaurant and wine bar is noted for its warm intimate vibe, “wonderful service” and vibrant Mediterranean-themed cooking. Occupying a part-timbered building in the old part of town, Casa Del Mar is done out in casual style, with ivy entwined around wrought ironwork, plain furniture, scrubbed floors and a centrepiece brick fireplace decorated with ethnic artefacts. Tapas and mezze plates feature prominently (note the excellent deals at lunchtime), but the menu pulls in ideas from all over: beyond the falafels, patatas bravas, boquerones and sharing platters, you might find Spanish fish stew, lamb and apricot tagine, Casa-style fajitas or slow-roasted pork belly served on a mash-up of chorizo, black-eyed beans and roasted vegetables with aïoli. Meanwhile, themed evenings “transport you to a Greek taverna or remind you of the flamenco dancers in Spain”.
