Four-hundred years old and still going strong, this whitewashed roadside country pub started life as a carpenter’s shop – so expect flagstone floors, roaring fires, antiques and a friendly welcome
within its four rambling rooms. Old church seating adds to the atmosphere, as does a quirky collection of chamber pots. At the bar you’ll find Fuller’s London Pride, Bath Ales Gem and Shepherd
Neame Spitfire, plus Thatcher’s cider. The Carpenter’s is proudly a ‘proper pub’ and the food keeps pace with filling home-cooked grub such as pies and traditional Sunday roasts. Less predictably,
there’s also an extensive range of gluten-free options. The location in a wooded valley close to Mounton Brook is lovely, with luscious green hills rising in the distance and plenty of outdoor
seating for soaking up the views on sunny days.
