About

This stylish gastropub with rooms is a popular spot for both tourists and residents, boasting a plum location just a few minutes’ walk from the city’s attractions such as Winchester Cathedral and the Brooks Shopping Centre.

The dining room at Bridge Street House is a rustic country-chic affair, complete with an oak-topped bar, hanging pendant lighting and studded tan leather banquettes. The restaurant is open all day, which means you can head here for breakfast dishes such as smoked salmon and scrambled egg on a toasted sourdough bagel or a full English, complete with sausage, bacon, egg, black pudding, mushroom, tomato, and potato rostis.

Later in the day, you can experience Bridge Street House’s à la carte, which champions carefully sourced British cuisine. To kick things off, you can order the likes of confit pork belly paired with egg fried rice and chilli jam, or Chalkstream trout with braised white beans, celery, samphire and caviar.

For your main course, you can order one of the carnivorous options from Bridge Street House’s grill – think fillet steak with beef fat mash potatoes and crispy onion rings, or a stacked burger piled high with streaky bacon and cheddar cheese, and served alongside a portion of truffle fries. There are a few vegetarian options too however, such as chickpea fritters or a mushroom, tarragon and spinach Wellington.

Desserts here are homey and indulgent affairs. White chocolate cheesecake is crowned with orange caramel and served alongside orange sorbet, while custard tart is finished off with nutmeg, stem ginger and gingerbread ice cream.

On the weekends, Bridge Street House is well known for its lively brunch, when guests can opt for ‘bottomless’ or ‘premium bottomless’ packages. The standard drinks options include Bloody Marys and Prosecco, whereas the premium drinks selection includes Champagne and Espresso Martinis. Brunch dishes meanwhile, see the likes of avocado on toast or Welsh rarebit.
