Celebrity-endorsed restaurants and bars haven’t always been successful – who remembers the short-lived Supermodel Café from the early 90s? – but in recent years, several big name celebrities have stepped up to the plate and opened their own successful drinking and dining establishments.
The latest to join in on the action is pop superstar Ed Sheeran, who has opened this intimate two-floor pub on Portobello Road in London’s Notting Hill. Sheeran owns the pub alongside his manager and business partner Stuart Camp, with the name being a nod to their respective partners – Bertie is a nickname for Camp’s partner Liberty Shaw, while Blossoms is a nod to Sheeran’s wife Cherry.
The pub is decked out in dark green hues and features a bronze-topped bar, as well as a frontage which opens up to provide street-side seating. The bar serves up beers, wines and house-made cocktails to punters, but also features a range of Champagnes for those looking to splash the cash, including the owner’s favourite fizz brand, Bereche. There is also a short food menu of casual pub grub, featuring meat, fish and vegetarian options.
The pub sits on the former site of long-standing Spanish restaurant Galicia, which opened its doors back in 1999, but closed in April of 2019. Sheeran confirmed that the pub and restaurant was open on his official Instagram page. The A-Team singer wrote: “Me and Stuart Camp have opened up our own bar in London. It’s called Bertie Blossoms, and it’s on Portobello road, opposite Pizza East. Good beer and good food. Pop in when you have time, hope you like it!”
The walls in Bertie Blossoms are lined with various colourful artworks and blown up prints, which should come as no surprise to keen Sheeran fans – the singer recently announced that he’s taken up painting in his spare time while on a break from releasing music. It’s not currently known if any of the singer’s own creations have made it on to the wall at his pub.
