It’s not an office, it’s a bread and wine bar. The blinds at the windows might suggest dreary labour, but Bakerie’s communal tables, open kitchen and ‘wine jukebox’ promise more leisurely pursuits. Rye, focaccia, wholemeal, plain white and sourdough breads are made daily in-house (there’s also a stash of gluten-free). They are served alongside deli boards, including a vegan version employing roasted vegetables and falafel. Sturdier main courses might be Moroccan lamb stew or beef shin chilli, and there’s a winning ‘little soldiers’ menu with a parent-pleasing selection of smaller dishes. The wine list features interesting sparkling options and bin ends; thanks to the push-button wine jukebox, the by-the-glass selection is extensive, with useful tasting notes and some unusual choices. Tasting sessions and single-grape wine flights offer pleasant educational opportunities. When something hoppier is required, customers head around the corner to sister venue Pie & Ale.
