About

Artichoke in Chester is one of those modern bistro restaurants that also functions as a café and bar throughout the day, so that whatever time you happen to pop in at then you’ll be able to find something to suit your mood (or level of hunger).

The space itself is relaxed and found within an old Mill building in the Canal Quarter of Chester. The building’s history is celebrated with painted wooden shutters, arched panelled windows and bare brick walls all on display throughout, while the dining room has modern, stylish touches to bring everything up to the present day in a careful and considered way.

The menu is inspired by taps and mezze style dining, so features lots of small plates that are ideal for sharing. With plenty of meat, fish and vegetable options there is something for everyone. We think the perfect meal is made up of a selection from each of the various sections. Serves like tempura haggis with sticky cranberry sauce or chorizo with red wine, onion and thyme lead the charge on the meat front with seafood plates like tiger prawns with pernod and garlic acting as a little lighter refreshment. On the veg side of things there are more internationally influenced plates, like onion bhajis with black rice, spinach, chickpeas and sweet potatoes as well as traditional combinations seen in thigns like a baked goat’s cheese with fig and onion accompaniments. If you’re not a fan of sharing don’t despair, Artichoke in Chester also have a line-up of tasty pizza options that are perfect for keeping all to yourself.

In the evenings soft jazz music plays and acts as the ideal backdrop for a few well-made cocktails and a couple of snacky bar bites. Mondays bring two for one on pizzas, and there’s a Sunday roast come the weekend, clocking in at the very reasonable price of £15 for two courses.
