A quite incredible place, and not just because of the location. Arriving late, we had trouble finding a B&B for the night – no problem, as it turned out: the landlady phoned around for us and procured one. Then I needed to phone my work, but couldn't get reception on the mobile. No problem – a small donation to the local mountain rescue people, and I could use the pub's phone. They couldn't be more welcoming. One evening spent drinking in the bar, and we'd not only sorted out a place to stay, but a sea-kayaking course for the next day and a range of walking routes. And we'd even stopped arguing.
The food is exceptional – the seafood is straight out of the bay, cooked to perfection, and incredibly good value (although, unfortunately, I do live in London). My only complaint was that they had run out of lobster when I arrived (late). So only 9.5 out of ten.
Oh – and the Applecross peninsular, with its views across to Skye and visiting basking sharks, is quite special too…
