OPENING SEPTEMBER 2021
Amethyst is the second solo venture from acclaimed chef Carlo Scotto which finds its home in the heart of Mayfair, catering to the well-heeled local crowd. Scotto previously headed up Xier - his debut independent project - which was a high-end tasting menu focused restaurant round the corner in Marylebone. Xier sadly closed following the series of lockdowns in the UK, but left room for an exciting new project.
Onto new things and taking aspects from Xier, Scotto is continuing with a tasting menu focus at Amethyst while offering additional alternative dining options like lunch sittings and a chef’s table. The latter of these formats involves guests putting in some culinary graft themselves, as each diner is instructed how prepare one of their own dishes. This interactive element is led by the chef for a hands-on approach to fine dining and offers a fun new format for high-end edible entertainment.
The intimate space lends itself to dates and small groups, with space for just 24 covers in total in the main dining room, while the chef’s table offers seats for six people. Perfect for special occasions or entertaining clients, it is possible to book either space exclusively.
When it comes to his cooking, Naples-born Scotto takes inspiration from both his Italian heritage and the UK food scene, fusing flavours and ingredients to create his signature style of ‘modern European with a global influence’. This approach is to be seen throughout the dishes at Amethyst with Scotto saying the coronavirus pandemic offered him time to redevelop his menus.
At lunchtime guests can choose between three and four course menus, which are perfect for those who prefer fewer courses than a traditional tasting menu offers.
Before undertaking his own ventures Scotto racked up quite the CV, working under top chefs like Angela Hartnett at Murano in Mayfair, and Galvin La Chapelle in Spitalfields.
