This cavernous new Bavarian bier palace is constantly buzzing already, so remember to book. It is Manchester’s first tankovna, which means beer such as unpasteurised Pilsner Urquell is served straight from huge shiny tanks. You’ll also find 10 other draught brews, along with Alpine cocktails, homemade Schnapps and a ‘push for Prosecco’ button on every table. To eat, bread, pretzels and cakes arrive fresh from the in-house bakery. Hearty brunches include bavette steak with eggs, while the full menu offers a starter of beer and onion soup with melting Gruyère cheese. Main course might be steak, schnitzel, currywurst or bratwurst, though don’t forget the house specialities of crispy Bavarian pork knuckle with pickled red cabbage, or tender slow-cooked Bavarian beef sauerbraten with potato rösti. Sformato – mashed potato with melting Alpine cheese and pungent truffle – is a must-try sharing side dish, but leave room for pudding of Black Forest molten soufflé.
