Having recently gone under refurbishment, the Bristol Old Vic’s restaurant 1766 (named after the date the theatre opened) is the ideal spot to grab a bite to eat before you head into the theatre to watch a show.
The bright and airy space, which incorporates the old exposed brick of the original theatre alongside modern and industrial touches, does all day dining. So whether you fancy an early morning coffee or a pre-show dinner, 1766 is the place to be.
On the menu you’ll find the likes of pastries, granola and a full English for breakfast. Lunch time brings around the likes of salads and sandwiches that vary daily and you can enjoy a pre-theatre set dining menu before your show too. On the a la carte dinner menu expect to find beetroot carpaccio, pan fried fillet of salmon and coconut and vanilla rice pudding with mango and passionfruit to finish. They also have a Sunday roast menu with a choice of three meats which is ideal for lunch before a matinée show.
Although housed in a theatre, don’t feel as if you have to have tickets to a show to enjoy the 1766, if you just fancy giving its extensive and varied menu a try head down to the bright and airy restaurant anyway.
Heading up the kitchen is chef Coco Barone, who worked all over the world before settling as head chef of 1766, her Italian roots and vast experience means that 1766 takes pride in using seasonal and great quality ingredients in all its dishes. She’s is also passionate about bringing people together through the medium of food which is why you’ll find a communal layout for when you are feeling a little more sociable, alongside smaller and more intimate tables for when you just want to enjoy your own company.
