While it looks every inch the traditional City pub – etched glass, polished brass – the Fox & Anchor is as slick a proposition as you’d expect from somewhere that doubles as a boutique hotel, with six bedrooms upstairs. Private dining takes place next door in The Vestry, a wine and cocktail bar that was formerly a church vestry, which can accommodate 30 seated, 40 standing or can be hired exclusively for 80 – brilliant as a wedding-reception venue if you’re getting married in one of the many City churches nearby. Lunchtime food packages start at £25, there are also breakfast, brunch and buffet offerings and, as you’d expect from somewhere with such a strong drinks pedigree, a ‘hops package’ of 15 beers for £74.
