Carlisle Racecourse

The most northerly of the Jockey Club’s venues, Carlisle Racecourse in Cumbria might have a racing heritage that dates back to the 16th century, but it is still making history today – the course held the world’s first exclusively female jockey race in 2011. A steady upgrading of its facilities ensures that conferences are just as well catered for as parties. Event spaces are spread across the three floors of the grandstand and a trackside facility that overlooks the parade ring. These include a host of boxes, which work for hospitality or boardroom meetings, and hold up to 40 in theatre-style seating. Gretna Green being just over the border, the venue is suitably equipped for wedding parties, with a range of spaces available. The 220-capacity Patterson Suite would be an obvious choice, with its own bar and views over the racecourse – a great setting for group photos. There’s free parking for up to 400 cars on site too.
